Mumbai: The excitement surrounding Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana is gaining momentum as the film’s worldwide advance bookings cross the ₹40 crore mark, five days ahead of its theatrical debut. Starring Ranbir Kapoor and Yash, the ambitious mythological drama has also received a boost following the resolution of a distribution dispute with Indian exhibitors.
Advance bookings for Ramayana opened on October 20, coinciding with Dussehra. However, ticket sales remained restricted across several regions because of disagreements between the film’s distributors and cinema owners over revenue sharing.

The distributors had reportedly proposed either a 55% share of theatrical earnings for the first 11 days or a three-week arrangement offering them 60%, 50% and 40% in successive weeks. Exhibitors initially resisted the proposals, citing operational expenses and concerns about setting a precedent for future releases.
The dispute was reportedly resolved on Friday, October 30, allowing more theatres to open bookings. By Saturday, the film was available across nearly 2,500 screens.
As of October 31 afternoon, its Indian advance bookings had generated approximately ₹16.5 crore, with more than three lakh tickets sold. The Kannada version has also gained traction, contributing around 13% of the domestic advance-booking gross.
The film is witnessing encouraging demand in international markets. Following its Los Angeles premiere, Ramayana recorded a 27% increase in overseas pre-sales within 24 hours.
