If it is identified on time, then liver damage can be prevented and if there is not much damage, then it can also be reversed. Therefore, it is very important to identify the symptoms of liver damage as soon as possible. Let us know which symptoms (Symptoms of Liver Damage) seen in the body indicate liver damage.
Jaundice
The most common symptom of liver damage is jaundice, in which the skin and the white part of the eyes start turning yellow. This is due to the liver not being able to process bilirubin properly. Jaundice may be difficult to detect on dark skin, but yellowing of the eyes is a clear sign.
Abdominal pain and swelling
When the liver is damaged, one may feel pain or discomfort in the upper right part of the abdomen. Also, there may be swelling in the abdomen, which is caused by fluid accumulation in the liver.
Swelling in the feet and ankles
When the liver does not function properly, fluid starts accumulating in the body, causing swelling in the feet and ankles. This is called edema and it can be a sign of a serious condition like liver cirrhosis.
Itchy skin
Due to liver damage, bilirubin and other toxins increase in the blood, which causes itching in the skin. This itching is often severe and persistent.
Dark urine
Usually the color of urine is light yellow, but in case of liver problems, the color of urine can be dark yellow or brown. This is due to increased bilirubin levels.
Yellow or white stool
A healthy liver produces bilirubin, which gives the stool a brown colour. But when the liver is damaged, the colour of the stool can become yellow, clay-like or white, because the flow of bilirubin is disrupted.
Fatigue and weakness
When the liver function is disturbed, the body does not get enough energy, due to which one feels constant fatigue and weakness. This symptom can also occur in other diseases, but if it persists for a long time, then the liver should be checked.
Nausea and vomiting
When the liver is damaged, the digestive system is affected, which can cause problems like nausea and vomiting. If this symptom occurs repeatedly, then a doctor should be consulted.
Loss of appetite
Due to liver damage, the digestive process slows down, due to which there is less appetite and weight starts decreasing rapidly.
Easy bruising or bleeding
The liver produces protein that helps in blood clotting. When the liver is damaged, this process is disrupted, which leads to easy bruises on the body or even a minor cut causes bleeding.
