Nassau: A plane crash in the Bahamas killed all 10 people on board and pushed authorities to ground Flamingo Air flights while they investigate what happened.
Prime Minister Philip Davis called it a heart breaking tragedy, describing the nation’s Independence Day as “a day of mourning” after the news broke.
The crash happened Friday just after a small Cessna 402 left Nassau heading for San Andros. At first, reports said one passenger survived, but Prime Minister Davis later shared that the survivor died from their injuries. No names have been released yet.
In response, the government quickly suspended Flamingo Air’s operations. They grounded every flight, citing safety concerns. The decision came after another scare that same day—another Flamingo Air plane had to turn back to Nassau and ended up catching fire on the ground. Thankfully, no one was hurt in that incident.
Speaking during what was supposed to be a weekend of national pride, Prime Minister Davis addressed the country in sorrow. “We gather beneath a cloud of great sorrow… To every family that has received the devastating news that someone they love will not be coming home, we offer our deepest condolences,” he said.
Authorities have now opened an investigation into why the plane went down. Flamingo Air flights will stay grounded until safety officials finish their review and clarify what caused the tragedy.
