New Delhi: Tamil Nadu politics has witnessed a fresh controversy over the 2029 Lok Sabha elections after Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) MLA Kanimozhi Santhosh made a major claim about actor-turned-politician Thalapathy Vijay’s future.
Speaking to reporters, Kanimozhi said Vijay could emerge as the Prime Ministerial face in 2029 and claimed that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi would support him for the top post.
“Rahul Gandhi helped Vijay reach the Chief Minister’s chair, and he will hold Vijay’s hand and make him sit on the Prime Minister’s chair in 2029,” she said.
The TVK MLA expressed confidence in her prediction and said that a major shift in Indian politics would be visible in 2029.
She referred to her earlier statement about Vijay becoming Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and claimed that her prediction had come true in 2026. She added that she was equally confident about Vijay’s possible national role in the future.
The controversy gained momentum after posters surfaced in Tamil Nadu projecting Vijay as the “future Prime Minister”.
Several TVK leaders backed the idea, arguing that a leader from Tamil Nadu should get an opportunity to lead the country. They claimed Vijay’s popularity extends beyond the state and that he has the potential to become a national figure.
The projection of Vijay as a PM candidate has not gone down well with Congress leaders in Tamil Nadu.
Congress leaders have maintained that Rahul Gandhi remains their preferred choice for the 2029 Lok Sabha elections. Some party leaders have warned that differences over the PM face could impact the alliance in the state.
With Vijay’s TVK becoming a new political force in Tamil Nadu, traditional parties are closely watching his moves. Although the 2029 elections are still years away, the debate over the next Prime Ministerial race has already started gaining momentum.
