Dhaka: At least three people were injured after an explosion occurred during a rally organised by Bangladesh's National Citizen Party (NCP) in Savar, near Dhaka, on Monday night. The blast took place while a party leader was addressing supporters, triggering panic among those gathered at the venue.

According to the NCP, the explosion occurred around 9:45 pm at the Savar Thana Stand Eidgah field during the party's post-march rally. In a statement, the party alleged that "terrorists detonated a bomb" at the rally venue.

Panic at rally venue

Videos circulating on social media showed a leader speaking from the stage when a sudden explosion was heard among the crowd. The blast caused chaos, with attendees scrambling to safety.

The rally was organised to mark the second anniversary of the student-led protests against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, which reshaped Bangladesh's political landscape.

Investigation underway

Authorities have not yet confirmed the cause of the explosion or whether it was a targeted attack. No arrests have been announced so far.

The injured were provided medical treatment, though officials have not released details about their condition. Security agencies have launched an investigation into the incident.

The blast has renewed concerns over security arrangements at political gatherings in Bangladesh. The incident comes just days after a factory fire in Keraniganj near Dhaka claimed five lives, prompting separate investigations into that tragedy as well.
