Madrid: A major train accident occurred on Sunday in the Andalusia region of southern Spain. At least 20 people were killed and more than 73 passengers injured when two high-speed trains collided head-on near the town of Adamuz in the Cordoba province. According to initial information, a high-speed train traveling from Malaga to Madrid derailed and collided with another oncoming train. Both trains were reportedly carrying approximately 500 passengers.
Spain's rail infrastructure operator, ADIF, reported that the train, traveling on the Malaga-Madrid route, suddenly derailed in the evening. At the same time, another train traveling from Madrid to Huelva was coming from the opposite direction, causing the horrific collision. The force of the collision severely damaged several carriages.

According to emergency services, 20 people have been confirmed dead in the accident, while more than 73 passengers are seriously injured. According to the security agency Guardia Civil, some passengers are still trapped inside the coaches, and rescue operations are underway to rescue them. Officials fear the death toll may rise.
Relief and rescue operations began immediately after the accident. The Red Cross sent several ambulances from Cordoba and Jaen to the scene. The injured were admitted to six nearby hospitals. Major hospitals in Madrid have also been put on alert to treat additional patients if needed.

Following the accident, all high-speed rail services between Madrid and Andalusia have been temporarily suspended. Officials said that trains en route were sent back to their originating stations for safety reasons. Passengers have been urged to take alternative routes.
An investigation has been ordered into the cause of the accident. Every aspect- technical fault, signal failure, or human error is being investigated. The Spanish government has expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and assured them of all possible help.
