Trump has issued a strong warning to Chinese
New Delhi: Keeping up his tirade, US President Donald Trump has declared that a blockade would be initiated in the Strait of Hormuz following the inconclusive end of marathon talks in Islamabad that lasted nearly 21 hours. Tensions between the United States and Iran now appear to be reaching a dangerous turning point.
Trump stated that the U.S. Navy would now commence operations to intercept any vessels attempting to traverse the Strait of Hormuz. He alleged that Iran is levying a "toll" on ships passing through this route—a practice he characterized as "extortion."
Trump also issued a warning that the U.S. would destroy any naval mines laid by Iran and that any attack would be met with a response of "full force."
Tehran has issued a stern response to this U.S. announcement. Iran has already made it clear that the Strait of Hormuz remains under its control and that it will take every necessary step to safeguard its interests. This raises fears that the confrontation between the two nations could escalate further. According to Iranian state media, Iran’s Armed Forces Central HQ said that security in the PersianGulf and the Sea of Oman is either for everyone or for NO ONE. If Iran’s ports are threatened, NO PORT in the region will be safe.
China has now also openly weighed in on this entire unfolding situation. Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun stated that his country seeks peace and stability in the region; however, he simultaneously clarified that China's trade and energy agreements with Iran would continue uninterrupted. China further asserted that its vessels continue to traverse this route and that it will protect its own interests.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry has also dismissed allegations suggesting that it is supplying weapons or technology to Iran. China maintained that it adheres to international norms and acts responsibly.
