Trump vs Pope Clash Escalates (Image Source: Internet)
New Delhi:Differences between US President Donald Trump and the head of the Catholic Church, Pope Leo XIV, have now become public. The situation intensified when Trump shared a social media image portraying himself in a Jesus Christ-like form, surrounded by figures resembling angels or soldiers.
Controversy Fueled by the ‘Christ-like’ Image
In the image shared by Trump, he is depicted wearing white robes, enveloped in a divine glow, and is shown in the act of "healing" an individual. This photograph sparked a major controversy on social media and elicited sharp reactions.
Trump’s Attack on the Pope
Trump criticized Pope Leo XIII, labeling him as "weak" and "too liberal." He stated that he does not favor a pope who adopts a soft stance regarding countries like Iran possessing nuclear weapons.
Trump further asserted that the Pope's understanding of foreign policy is "flawed" and that his views run counter to American interests, and he likes his brother much more than him, as he is more inclined towards MAGA.
The Pope’s Response
Responding to Trump's allegations, Pope Leo XIV stated that his message is grounded in peace and reconciliation. He clarified that his remarks were not directed against any single individual, but rather against the escalating warfare and violence across the globe.
He declared that "God does not listen to the prayers of those who wage war" and denounced threats of large-scale destruction as unacceptable.
Dispute Over Iran and War
This entire controversy is intertwined with the ongoing tensions between the US, Israel, and Iran. The Pope had identified the "illusion of omnipotence" as a root cause of war—a remark that Trump perceived as being directed against himself.
Following this, Trump issued even sharper statements, asserting that he cannot accept a religious leader who fails to adopt a firm stance regarding the nuclear threat.
Clash Over Venezuela as Well
While criticizing the Pope, Trump also raised the issue of Venezuela. He defended his administration's efforts to oust Nicolás Maduro, arguing that the pope is opposing US policies.
This matter marks a rare public clash between the United States and the Vatican. Typically, the two sides do not comment on one another so directly; however, on this occasion, the rhetoric has been notably sharp.
Experts believe that this dispute could evolve into a larger issue—one that transcends mere personal differences and intersects with global politics, warfare, and ethics.
