New Delhi: Pakistan has reportedly deployed 8,000 troops, multiple squadrons of fighter jets, and advanced defense systems to Saudi Arabia under a mutual defense agreement, according to sources cited by Reuters.
The deployment marks a significant step in Pakistan’s military cooperation with Riyadh, even as Islamabad continues to position itself as a key mediator in the ongoing Iran-Saudi tensions.
Sources familiar with the operation revealed that the Pakistani contingent includes a full squadron of approximately 16 aircraft, primarily JF-17 fighter jets developed jointly with China, as well as two squadrons of drones. The forces, considered combat-ready, were sent to Saudi Arabia in early April and are expected to provide support to the Saudi military in the event of any external threat.
In 2025, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia signed an agreement committing to mutual defense, with Pakistani Defense Minister Khawaja Asif previously stating that Saudi Arabia falls under Pakistan’s “nuclear security umbrella” in times of attack. Officials confirmed that additional forces could be deployed if the situation escalates.
The Pakistan Army, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Saudi government media office have not commented on the deployment.
