New Delhi: Strong earthquake tremors were once again felt in the Tatsugo area of Japan on Saturday. According to local time, this earthquake occurred on July 5, and its intensity was measured at 5.4. Its epicenter was about 10 kilometers deep inside the ground. Recently, similar earthquake tremors were felt in the Amami-Kagoshima region of Japan, whose intensity was 5.5, reports Dynamite News correspondent.
Japan's geographical location makes it particularly vulnerable to earthquakes. The country is located on the "Ring of Fire" of the Pacific Ocean, where three major tectonic plates—the Pacific, Philippine, and Eurasian plates—meet. Due to this, earthquakes keep occurring somewhere in Japan almost every day.
Increased movement in the Tokara Islands
Japan's Tokara Islands remain the center of seismic activities these days. According to a report by The Guardian, on June 23, 2025, the earth shook 183 times in a single day in the Tokara Islands. This figure is many times more than any normal day. After this, 15 earthquakes were recorded on June 26, 16 on June 27, 34 on June 28, and 98 on June 29.
There are a total of 12 small islands in the Tokara region, where about 700 people live. Due to frequent earthquakes here, there is an atmosphere of panic among the local people.
History has also been full of earthquakes
The Tokara Islands have a long history of earthquakes. In September 2024, 346 earthquakes were recorded here, while in December 2021, the earth shook 308 times. This makes it clear that this area is geologically highly active. Experts believe that it may be part of the earthquake swarm, in which earthquakes occur continuously at a certain time.
Japan's disaster management system on alert
Due to these frequent earthquakes, Japan's disaster management agencies have become alert. Citizens have been instructed to be cautious and keep emergency kits ready. Although no loss of life or major damage has been reported from these earthquakes so far, scientists believe that this movement can also be a sign of a major earthquake.
