New Delhi: Iran has taken a swipe at US President Donald Trump after he referred India and China as hellholes in a controversial post on birthright citizenship.
Iran’s Consulate in Mumbai shared a social media post highlighting the cultural and natural diversity of Maharashtra, suggesting that exposure to such experiences could counter negative perceptions. The post included a video showcasing regional heritage and landscapes, drawing attention online.
"Maybe someone should book a one-way cultural detox for Mr Trump, it might just reduce the random bakwaas. Kabhi India aa ke dekho, phir bolna," the consulate wrote in the post.

The issue stems from comments originally made by Michael Savage during a podcast discussion on birthright citizenship in the United States. In the transcript, he used offensive language while referring to countries including India and China.
Trump later reshared the content on his platform, bringing the remarks into wider public attention and triggering reactions from multiple quarters.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs responded to the controversy, calling the remarks inappropriate and not reflective of the reality of India’s relationship with the United States.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that such comments were uninformed and in poor taste, emphasizing that bilateral ties are built on mutual respect and shared interests.
The remarks also drew criticism within the United States. Members of the US House Foreign Affairs Committee criticised the amplification of such language, stressing the need for responsible leadership, particularly during sensitive geopolitical situations.
