Islamabad: A senior commander of the banned militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Sheikh Yusuf Afridi, has been killed in a shooting incident in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, in what officials suspect was a targeted attack.

According to early reports, unidentified armed men opened fire at close range, leaving Afridi critically injured. He died on the spot before help could arrive. The attackers managed to escape immediately after the incident, and no group has claimed responsibility so far.

Security sources say Afridi was an important LeT figure and was believed to be close to the group’s chief, Hafiz Saeed. He was reportedly involved in recruitment and coordinating activities for the organisation in the region.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the killing. Officials are treating the incident as part of a broader pattern of targeted attacks against individuals linked to banned militant groups in Pakistan in recent years.

The motive behind the attack is still unclear, and investigations are ongoing.
