New York: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has urged India and several other countries to remain cautious over the alleged involvement of their citizens in the Russia-Ukraine war. Addressing the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Zelenskyy claimed that Russia was bringing foreign nationals into the conflict through misleading promises.

Zelenskyy said citizens from multiple countries were being drawn into the war and called on governments to ensure that their people do not become part of the battlefield. He included India among the nations he appealed to during his address.
The Ukrainian leader said countries should take steps to prevent their nationals from being used in a conflict that has continued for years. According to Zelenskyy, Moscow’s alleged recruitment methods were putting foreign citizens at risk.
His remarks came amid concerns raised by several countries over their citizens reportedly joining Russian forces. India has also previously taken up the issue of Indian nationals who were allegedly recruited by Russian agencies on promises of non-combat jobs but later found themselves linked to the war zone.
The Indian government has earlier raised the matter with Russian authorities and worked towards the release and return of affected Indian nationals. New Delhi has maintained that Indian citizens should not be involved in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Zelenskyy’s comments at the UNGA came as world leaders continued discussions on the ongoing war, its humanitarian impact and diplomatic efforts to find a resolution.
The Ukrainian President has repeatedly used international platforms to seek support for ending the conflict and highlighting concerns related to Russia’s military actions.
