
The presence of LeT-linked leaders at funeral
Islamabad: The funeral of former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar’s elder brother, Shahid Akhtar, has come under scrutiny after several leaders allegedly linked to the banned terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) were seen attending the ceremony in Islamabad.
According to a report by India Today, videos and photographs from the funeral showed Saifullah Kasuri, deputy chief of Lashkar-e-Taiba, among those present at the ceremony.
Saifullah Kasuri, who has been identified in the report as the mastermind of the April 22, 2025, Pahalgam terror attack, was reportedly seen attending the funeral.
The presence of individuals linked to LeT has triggered controversy and raised questions over the gathering.
Inam-ur-Rehman Kamboh, president of the Pakistan Markazi Muslim League (PMML), was also reportedly seen at the funeral.
PMML is widely regarded as the political front of Lashkar-e-Taiba, a banned terror organisation.
The controversy surfaced after visuals from the funeral began circulating, showing the presence of several controversial figures.
The report claimed that leaders associated with LeT-linked networks were present during the last rites of Shahid Akhtar.
Shoaib Akhtar has not issued any public statement on the controversy so far.
The presence of LeT-linked leaders at the funeral has sparked a fresh debate, especially in the backdrop of continuing concerns over terror networks operating from Pakistan.
