Washington: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is all set to meet US President Donald Trump on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, in their first meeting since both countries launched a joint war against Iran. The meeting comes at a time when both leaders are facing pressure from their countries. The meeting also gives Netanyahu a chance to address strains in his relationship with President Trump.
Israeli Prime Minister is up for re-election and is under pressure in part because of his ties with US President Trump, whereas Trump is facing calls to end the war against Iran as it is impacting the US economy and pushing up prices ahead of the US midterm elections in November.
As per White House officials, both leaders are also likely to discuss the framework agreement the US and Israel have signed with Lebanon over the Israel-Hezbollah war, as well as the expansion of the popular Abraham Accords.
President Trump said on July 27, “We have a little difference. But pretty close, yeah,” when asked if he and Netanyahu were on the same page on Iran.
Both leaders have a zig-zag relationship over the years, but after Trump returned to the White House, their alliance has appeared stronger than ever.
Both countries started the war against Iran in February as a united front and said their militaries were acting in lockstep to change the regime in Iran, but Iran fought back by using missiles and drones on US bases and high-rises in Gulf cities and also closed the Straight of Hormuz.
The blockage of the Strait of Hormuz has put heavy pressure at home and from allies in the region to bring the war to an end.
