New Delhi: United States and Iran are reportedly engaged in intense indirect negotiations aimed at finalising a potential diplomatic agreement that could reshape regional tensions in the Middle East. Reports suggest that both sides are attempting to prevent further escalation while addressing long-standing disputes linked to Tehran’s nuclear programme.

Ceasefire and Maritime Security at the Centre

According to reports citing Iran’s state news agency IRNA, the proposed framework includes an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire across multiple fronts. The draft also contains assurances regarding the security of key maritime routes, particularly in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz, which are considered crucial for global energy supplies and international trade.

The agreement is also expected to include a phased rollback of sanctions on Iran. However, the easing of restrictions would reportedly depend on Tehran fulfilling commitments outlined in the proposed arrangement.

Follow-Up Negotiations Planned

The draft framework reportedly includes commitments from both nations to avoid targeting critical infrastructure in the future. It also proposes a timeline for additional negotiations aimed at resolving unresolved disputes. Reports indicate that fresh diplomatic discussions may begin within a week as part of a broader roadmap.

According to reports officials from both countries are currently exchanging draft texts and messages through indirect diplomatic channels in an effort to finalise a workable agreement.

Nuclear Dispute Remains a Major Challenge

Despite progress in negotiations, disagreements over Iran’s highly enriched uranium stockpile remain a key obstacle. Reports suggest Tehran is reluctant to send near weapons-grade uranium outside the country, a demand strongly backed by Washington.

Donald Trump has reiterated that the United States will not permit Iran to retain enriched uranium capable of supporting weapons development.

Meanwhile, media reports also highlighted tensions between Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu, with Israel reportedly favouring stronger military action against Iran instead of renewed diplomacy.
