New Delhi: US President Donald Trump has expressed strong reservations about a fresh 14-point peace proposal submitted by Iran, indicating that the plan may not meet American expectations. In a statement shared on Truth Social, Trump said he would review the proposal but suggested it was unlikely to be acceptable, arguing that Iran had not yet faced sufficient consequences for its past actions.

He remarked that he “cannot imagine” approving the proposal under current circumstances, pointing to long-standing grievances against Tehran.

Warning of Possible Military Action

During a media interaction in Florida, Trump signaled that the possibility of renewed military action remains on the table. When asked about restarting strikes on Iran, he said such action could be considered if Tehran “misbehaves,” though he stopped short of defining specific triggers.

His remarks indicate that while diplomatic channels remain open, the US is not ruling out a return to confrontation.

Conflict Remains in Fragile Pause

The conflict involving the United States and Israel, which began in late February, has been on hold since April 8. Despite the pause, efforts to secure a lasting resolution have struggled to gain momentum. A previous round of peace talks held in Pakistan failed to produce a breakthrough.

Iran has now submitted a revised proposal through Pakistan, acting as a mediator, aiming to end hostilities across multiple fronts. The plan reportedly includes provisions for managing tensions around the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.

Iran Signals Readiness for Both Paths

Iranian officials have responded cautiously but firmly to Trump’s remarks. Senior military officer Mohammad Jafar Asadi suggested that a resumption of conflict remains a real possibility. He accused US officials of using public statements to manage global perceptions and stabilize oil markets, while asserting that Iranian forces are fully prepared for any escalation.

Diplomacy or Confrontation Ahead

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi emphasized that the next move lies with Washington. Addressing diplomats in Tehran, he stated that the United States must decide whether to pursue diplomacy or continue with a confrontational approach.

He added that Iran is prepared for both outcomes, signaling a dual-track stance of negotiation and readiness for conflict.

Uncertain Road Ahead

With both sides maintaining firm positions, the situation remains highly uncertain. While the submission of a new peace proposal offers a potential path forward, the lack of trust and sharp rhetoric from both Washington and Tehran continue to complicate efforts toward de-escalation.
