New Delhi: Nathan Thomas, an engineering instructor from Florida, has entered the Guinness World Records after becoming the world's youngest male professor at the age of 18 years and 346 days. His achievement ends a record that had stood for more than three centuries.
Thomas joined Miami Dade College as an engineering instructor, where he teaches COP 2270: C for Engineers, a course focused on C programming and computational problem-solving for engineering students. Many of his students are close to his own age.

According to Guinness World Records, Thomas surpassed the milestone set by Scottish mathematician Colin Maclaurin, who became a professor at the age of 19 in 1717. The record remained unbeaten for 306 years before Thomas claimed the title.
Thomas's academic journey began much earlier than most. At just 10 years old, he enrolled at Miami Dade College through a dual-enrolment programme while continuing his school education.
By the age of 14, he had moved to Florida International University, where he completed both his bachelor's and master's degrees in Electrical Engineering with honours.
Years later, he returned to Miami Dade College—not as a student, but as a faculty member.
Alongside his teaching career, Thomas is studying for a Juris Doctor (JD) degree at the University of Miami School of Law, with graduation expected in 2028.
He plans to specialise in intellectual property law, combining his engineering expertise with legal knowledge to help protect technological innovations.

Thomas has said that age has never been a barrier in the classroom. He believes curiosity and dedication matter more than age, whether someone is teaching or learning.
Growing up in a family of engineers also shaped his academic interests. He has credited his mother with making mathematics enjoyable and helping him develop a strong foundation in science from an early age.
By becoming the world's youngest male professor, Nathan Thomas has not only rewritten the Guinness record books but also demonstrated an extraordinary academic journey from enrolling in college as a 10-year-old child to teaching engineering before turning 19.
