Srinagar: Sleuths of the Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) of J&K Police on Friday morning carried out simultaneous raids at several locations across the Valley, official sources said, adding the raids are conducted as a part of investigation in a terror case.

"Searches are in progress in Budgam, Awantipora, Pulwama, Kupwara, Shopian, and Srinagar districts of Kashmir," said a police source.

Officials said that during the investigation, various suspects were found using a specific encrypted messaging application which is used by terrorists, their handlers from across the border.

These individuals are suspected to be in touch with entities across the border, said sources. More details are awaited, officials added.

Two weeks ago State Investigation Agency (SIA) of Jammu and Kashmir Police has conducted raids at multiple locations in ongoing crackdown on suspected terror related activities, officials said.

SIA Statement

"The raids that are underway in central and north Kashmir districts is part of an ongoing crackdown on suspected terror-related activities in the region, they said.

This development follows the recent documented raids carried out by the SIA on May 11 targeting approximately 20 locations in South Kashmir, specifically in the districts of Pulwama, Shopian, Kulgam, and Anantnag.

Earlier Raids

Those earlier raids were part of a high-stakes investigation into a terror conspiracy case, where alleged sleeper cells were found to be in contact with handlers in Pakistan.

The accused individuals were reportedly involved in sharing sensitive information about security forces and critical infrastructure using encrypted messaging platforms such as WhatsApp, Telegram, and Signal.

"Today's raids in Central and North Kashmir are likely a continuation or expansion of that broader investigation. More details are expected to emerge as the operation progresses," officials added.

Srinagar Police has intensified its crackdown under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), targeting individuals linked with proscribed outfits.

Dismantle Terrorist Ecosystem

This decisive action of J&K Police aims to dismantle the terrorist ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir by identifying and taking legal action against individuals engaged in such anti-national and criminal activities, the statement added.

Srinagar Police said it remains committed to safeguarding peace and security in the city.

“Any individual found furthering the agenda of violence, disruption, or unlawful activities will face strict legal consequences under the law,” the statement said.
