Srinagar: Many areas in the state are drastically affected by landslides and floods due to heavy rains, reports Dynamite News correspondent.
Sudden floods and landslides have made many people homeless. Almost all the schools have been closed in many areas. Administration and Police teams are trying to control teh situation.
There is report that a child was swept away in the strong current of Rajouri river but luckily he was stopped by a stone in the middle of the river. But the flow of water was so fast that he had no way to get out of it. All his shouts for help went in vain due to noise of flowing water and strong winds. However he was lucky that some people noticed him and informed the police-administration including Army.
Rescue Operation
The rescue operation was started by the Police and Army immediately after getting the information. The local administration also started working in collaboration with SDRF and police. After lot of efforts failed, the Army sent a helicopter and finally the child was saved.
Immediately after rescue the child was taken to safe place. Everybody was all praise for the timely action.
DM Rajouri Statement
Abhishek Sharma DM (District Magistrate) Rajouri said that they are saving the lives of others by risking their own lives.
Sharma said, ‘All the teams were deployed here so that we can save his life at all costs. Heavy rains have created trouble in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir. It has been raining very heavily in the Kalakot area of Rajouri district for the last three days. Due to this, landslides have occurred at many places. Many houses have been damaged due to landslides and roads have been closed.’
Tanveer Hussain Khan, ADC (Assistant Development Commissioner) of Kalakot said that his teams are working continuously so that the situation can be fixed. Due to heavy rains, all schools, whether government or private, remained closed for the second day.
‘Heavy rains have caused flash floods and landslides in Rajouri district. Officials have set up control rooms to help the people. He has advised people to stay indoors and avoid going to landslide prone areas,’ added Tanveer Hussain Khan.
ADC Kalakot said that more than 25 houses have been damaged. We have shifted many people people to safer places. People have suffered heavy losses due to landslides.
