Lawyers protest against shoe-hurl at CJI
New Delhi: The All India Lawyers Union (AILU) on Tuesday staged a protest at the Supreme Court complex here in Delhi against the attempt to hurl a shoe at Chief Justice of India (CJI) BR Gavai. They demanded strict action against the accused lawyer Rakesh Kishore.
The protesting advocates slammed the incident and said that this is an attack on the Constitution and the judicial system. One of the AILU member said that this attack is highly condemnable. He said that this is an attack not only against the Chief Justice of India but against the Constitution and the entire judicial system.

He further said that the entire society should condemn it in the strongest words. He said, 'All of us extend our support to the CJI and the Constitution and will be protesting against the atrocious act by that lawyer... An FIR against lawyer Rakesh Kishore must be filed and contempt proceedings against initiated.'
However the CJI Gavai, in a show of his humility, declined to take an action against the lawyer Rakesh Kishore.
On this magnimous gestures of the CJI, AILU member said that 'Chief Justice should be appreciated for his humbleness, that he did not initiate a police action and even returned his shoe.'

Eminent Jurist and Fourth-Term Parliamentarian Dr Abhishek Manu Singhvi took to social media X and condemned the accused lawyer. He wrote, "Deeply disturbing & utterly condemnable. The act of hurling shoes at Hon’ble CJI Gavai inside the courtroom is an attack not just on an individual, but on the majesty of the institution itself. Such disgraceful conduct by an alleged lawyer must invite the strictest consequences."

Dr Singhvi said that such disgraceful conduct by an alleged lawyer must invite the strictest consequences.
