Karnataka: Truck hits car in Kunigal killing four of a family

Bengaluru: Four members of a family lost their lives when their car collided with a mini truck on a bypass near Kunigal in Tumakuru district. A 13-year-old boy was also among the dead. Police gave this information on Monday.

The deceased have been identified as Seebe Gowda (50), his wife Shobha (45), daughter Dumbisree (23) and son Bhanukiran (13).

According to police, the accident occurred on Sunday night when the family was going to drop Bhanukiran, a student of class VIII, to his hostel near Bidanagre on the outskirts of Kunigal.

Gowda Family

Gowda lived with his family in Magadi town. Gowda and his family were going to drop Bhanukiran to his hostel from school after dinner. On the way, when they reached Kunigal bypass, a speeding canter truck coming from the wrong direction hit the car from the front, a senior police officer said.

Case Registered

The officer said the car was also moving at a high speed and the collision was so severe that all four passengers in the car died on the spot. The officer said the driver of the mini truck has been arrested and a case has been registered against him under relevant sections.

Vijayapura SP Statement

Vijayapura Superintendent of Police Laxman Nimbargi said that this accident happened when a Mahindra SUV 300 car going towards Solapur overtook and collided with a private bus coming from Mumbai to Ballari. At the same time, another Bolero also got caught in this accident. He said that five passengers in the Bolero and the driver of the private bus died in the accident. However, he could not tell how the Bolero got caught in the accident.

He said that due to the accident, traffic on the national highway is disrupted. Lakshman Nimbargi said that the people who died in the accident that happened on Wednesday morning have not been identified yet.
