New Delhi: Jyeshtha Purnima will be observed on Sunday, and this year’s observance holds additional spiritual significance as it falls during Adhik Maas, a rare lunar month considered highly auspicious in Hindu tradition.
Purnima (full moon day) is regarded as one of the most sacred lunar dates, associated with worship, fasting, charity and prayers aimed at attracting prosperity and spiritual well-being.
Devotees often perform rituals dedicated to the Moon and Goddess Lakshmi, and many also believe that donations made on this day help reduce negative planetary influences such as Chandra-related doshas and bring emotional stability.
Donations considered auspicious on Jyeshtha Purnima 2026
1. Water-filled earthen pot (Matka)
Given the intense summer heat during Jyeshtha month, donating a clay pot filled with water is considered especially meaningful. It is traditionally believed to provide relief to those in need and is associated with spiritual merit and ancestral blessings.
2. Seasonal summer fruits
Fruits such as watermelon, muskmelon, mango and cucumber are commonly donated. These offerings are believed to symbolize nourishment, cooling energy, and improved health for both the giver and receiver.
3. White items: milk, rice and silver
White-coloured items are often linked with lunar energy. Donations like milk, rice, sugar and silver are believed to promote mental calmness, reduce stress and support financial stability, particularly for those facing emotional imbalance or perceived weak Moon placements in their horoscope.
4. Yellow grains and lentils
Items such as chana dal, gram flour and turmeric are considered highly auspicious, especially as Purnima is associated with Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi in Hindu belief. These donations are thought to remove obstacles in career and business while attracting positive energy.
As devotees observe the full moon, many combine fasting, prayers and charity with the belief that such practices bring harmony, prosperity and inner peace during this spiritually significant period.
