London: Princess Kate turned heads at the London world premiere of Digger, making a grand royal appearance alongside her husband Prince William and Hollywood star Tom Cruise. The Princess of Wales chose a striking purple gown by Jenny Packham, paired with iconic pieces from the royal jewellery collection, including Princess Diana’s Collingwood pearl and diamond earrings and the Queen Mother’s amethyst sautoir necklace.
Her appearance quickly became a talking point, with royal watchers highlighting the significance of the historic jewellery pieces.
For the premiere, Kate wore a floor-length purple Jenny Packham gown originally designed in 2016, but never previously seen publicly. The elegant silk chiffon outfit featured a flowing silhouette, detailed pleating around the neckline and waist, and dramatic semi-sheer sleeves that added volume and sophistication. The structured cuffs, fitted waist and flowing A-line skirt created a classic royal red-carpet appearance. Kate completed the look with a matching clutch and heels from Jimmy Choo.
The highlight of Kate’s accessories was the Queen Mother’s amethyst sautoir necklace, a historic royal jewel featuring diamonds, pearls and amethysts. The three-strand necklace includes a heart-shaped pendant surrounded by diamonds and carries more than a century of royal history.
The piece was reportedly gifted to Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon by Queen Alexandra in 1923 on the occasion of her marriage to the Duke of York who later became King George VI. The necklace reflects the popular jewellery style of the 1920s and remains one of the notable pieces associated with the British royal collection.
Kate also wore Princess Diana’s famous Collingwood pearl drop earrings, adding another meaningful connection to the royal family’s past. The earrings were gifted to Diana as a wedding present in 1981 by Collingwood Jewellers, a brand closely linked with Diana and the Spencer family. Kate’s choice of Diana’s jewellery once again highlighted the tradition of passing significant royal pieces through generations.
