This velvety roti pairs beautifully with a drizzle of ghee and can be enjoyed with dal (lentils), vegetable dishes, or creamy curries. Not only is it delicious, but it’s also wholesome and nourishing.
The best part? It’s surprisingly easy to make and requires minimal effort. If you’re looking to serve something unique and comforting to your family, Makhmali Roti is definitely worth trying.
Ingredients
2 cups wheat flour
¼ cup warm milk
2 tablespoons yogurt
1 teaspoon ghee or oil
Water (as needed for kneading)
A pinch of salt (optional)
Ghee or butter (for serving, optional)
Method
In a bowl, combine wheat flour, warm milk, yogurt, ghee (or oil), and salt (if using).
Mix well and gradually add water to knead a soft, smooth dough.
Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 20-30 minutes.
Divide the dough into equal portions and roll each into a smooth ball.
Roll each ball into a round disc, ensuring it is evenly thin-not too thick or too thin.
Heat a tava (griddle) over medium heat and place the roti on it.
When bubbles form on the surface, flip it. Cook until light brown spots appear.
Flip again and gently press with a spatula or cloth to help it puff up.
Remove from the pan and, if desired, apply ghee or butter on top.
