Mumbai: Early results from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections indicate a strong performance by the BJP–Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) alliance, with results declared for 27 wards so far.

Trends across the 227-seat civic body show the ruling alliance in the lead, while Congress continues to trail overall.

The first confirmed result came from Ward 183 (Dharavi), where Congress candidate Asha Kale secured a victory by 1,450 votes, defeating Vaishali Shewale of the Shinde-led Shiv Sena and Parihar Katke of the MNS. Dharavi remains a traditional Congress stronghold.

Setback for Nawab Malik’s Family

Veteran Maharashtra leader Nawab Malik faced a political setback as his brother Captain Malik lost from Kurla West ward. Congress candidate Ashraf Azmi emerged victorious in the constituency.

Arun Gawli’s Daughter Trailing in Byculla

In Ward 207 (Byculla), the BJP is leading, with its candidate Rohidas Lokhande ahead by 964 votes. Yogita Gawli, daughter of underworld don Arun Gawli and candidate of the Akhil Bharatiya Sena, is trailing in second place.
