India Rescues 345 Fishermen from War-Torn Iran
Chennai: Amidst the ongoing tensions and war-like situation in West Asia, 345 Indian fishermen stranded in Iran have returned safely to India. All the fishermen arrived at Chennai airport on Saturday evening, where officials confirmed their return. Armenia played a key role in this successful rescue operation, which ensured the safe evacuation of Indian citizens.
According to officials, the entire rescue operation was carried out through a special route, in which the Indian fishermen were airlifted from Iran to India via Armenia. As soon as the plane landed at Chennai airport, all passengers underwent medical check-ups and completed the necessary formalities.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar expressed special thanks to Armenia's Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and the government of Armenia for this successful operation. He wrote on social media that Armenia's cooperation was crucial in the safe evacuation of Indian citizens.

Upon arrival in Chennai, all fishermen underwent medical screening and biometric verification. The state government then arranged for their transportation to their home districts via buses. Financial assistance is also being provided for their onward journey.
Officials report that visas for fishermen working in Iran are still valid, but unions say that until the war-risk insurance issue is resolved, it will be difficult to restore employment.

According to reports, these fishermen were working at various Iranian ports but became stranded after the security situation in the region deteriorated. While details of the exact circumstances of their stranding are not yet known, maritime activities were also affected due to the escalating tensions.
According to government figures, over 1,500 Indian citizens have been safely evacuated from Iran since the conflict in West Asia began. Many of these people have been provided safe passage through countries like Armenia and Azerbaijan. The government is continuously monitoring the situation in the region.
