Trump issues fresh warning to Iran on Hormuz closure (Image: Internet)
Washington: US President Donald Trump has issued a sharp warning to Iran, saying Tehran has just 48 hours to either reach a deal with Washington or reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a key global shipping route.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump reiterated his earlier ultimatum, stating that time was running out and warning of severe consequences if Iran failed to comply.
The warning comes ahead of an April 6 deadline set by the US for Iran to de-escalate tensions and allow maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. The narrow waterway is crucial for global energy supplies, with a significant portion of the world’s oil passing through it.
Trump had earlier said the deadline was extended after Iran sought additional time, pushing the timeline to 10 days from an initial seven-day window.

Iran has, however, rejected the US proposal to end the conflict, describing it as “one-sided and unfair.” Despite the hardening positions, Tehran has indicated it remains open to diplomatic engagement.
Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Iran has not ruled out talks and is willing to participate in discussions aimed at resolving the crisis.
Pakistan has emerged as a potential venue for negotiations between the US and Iran. Officials in Islamabad have indicated that efforts to broker a ceasefire are progressing, with multiple countries stepping in as mediators.
Diplomatic sources say Pakistan, Turkey and Egypt are working to bring both sides to the negotiating table. The proposed framework includes a temporary halt in hostilities to facilitate dialogue and reopen the strait.

The ongoing standoff has raised concerns about global energy security, as disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz could significantly impact oil supplies and prices.
The United Nations Security Council is expected to discuss the situation, including measures to ensure the reopening of the critical shipping corridor.
With the deadline approaching, the coming days are likely to be crucial in determining whether diplomatic efforts can succeed or tensions escalate further.
