New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has announced strict action following the deadly Satya Niketan PG building collapse that claimed seven lives. The Chief Minister said the building adjacent to the collapsed structure will be demolished on Wednesday after civic authorities declared it unsafe.
The decision came after an inspection by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), which found the structure in a dangerous condition and issued a notice to the owner.
CM Rekha Gupta announced financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh each for those injured in the collapse. She also assured that the Delhi government would bear the complete medical expenses of the victims.
The Chief Minister visited the injured at AIIMS Trauma Centre and handed over cheques to their families.
The tragedy occurred on Sunday afternoon when a decades-old building housing a boys’ PG accommodation, known as Hostel Daze, collapsed in Delhi’s Satya Niketan area.
Seven people lost their lives in the incident, while several others were injured. The building had a basement and four floors above ground, with repair work reportedly underway at the time of the collapse.
The MCD described the adjoining building as being in a “ruinous and dangerous condition” and warned that it posed a risk to residents and passersby.
Officials have planned the demolition in a controlled, phase-wise manner to avoid further damage or safety risks.
Satya Niketan is a popular student residential hub in Delhi, known for affordable accommodation options, but concerns have repeatedly been raised over overcrowded buildings and safety standards in the area.
