Aadhaar users may soon update their address and mobile number from home, no centre visit needed! With OTP and face authentication via the official app, UIDAI promises a secure, convenient way but how exactly will this digital update work?
Aadhaar users may soon update their address and mobile number from home
New Delhi: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is set to roll out a major convenience for Aadhaar holders, allowing them to update their residential address and mobile number directly from home. This move aims to eliminate the need for in-person visits to enrolment centres, which currently require paperwork, long queues, and waiting times.
At present, any modification to key Aadhaar details, such as mobile number or residential address, mandates a visit to an Aadhaar enrolment centre for verification.

UIDAI has confirmed the new features via posts on X, explaining that both address and mobile number updates will soon be possible using digital authentication within the official Aadhaar app. Address updates can be completed entirely from home, while mobile number changes will involve OTP verification along with face authentication to securely verify the user’s identity.
This approach removes the need for physical documents and reduces dependency on centre visits, making it convenient for users across the country.
The new system will feature a two-step verification process. First, users will receive a one-time password (OTP) on their existing or new mobile number. Next, they must complete face authentication via the app, where live facial data is digitally matched with Aadhaar records.
To update details, users will enter their Aadhaar number, select their preferred language, verify the OTP, and complete face authentication. Additionally, a six-digit security PIN will be created to lock their Aadhaar profile in the app, ensuring extra protection for personal information.

Although the features are not live yet, UIDAI has urged users to download the Aadhaar app on Android or iOS devices in anticipation of the update. The authority has emphasized that the digital update functionality will be available soon and advised users to follow official announcements for detailed rollout instructions and guidelines.
This development marks a significant step toward digitizing Aadhaar services and making them more user-friendly, especially for those who previously faced difficulties accessing physical enrolment centres. With online updates, Aadhaar holders will soon enjoy a faster, safer, and more convenient way to keep their key details current.
UIDAI’s upcoming digital update system promises to revolutionize how Aadhaar holders manage their information, making long queues and centre visits a thing of the past.
