Samajwadi Party (SP) Chief Akhilesh Yadav stated that Vande Mataram was a source of inspiration during the freedom struggle, empowering Indians to unite and fight against the British.

New Delhi: During a discussion in the Lok Sabha on the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram, Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav launched a scathing attack on the central government. He stated that Vande Mataram was a source of inspiration during the freedom struggle, empowering Indians to unite and fight against the British.
During the discussion, he also alleged that the ruling party tries to claim everything as its own, while Vande Mataram is not the property of any single individual or party, but represents the sentiment of the entire nation.
Taking aim at the government during the discussion on Vande Mataram in the Lok Sabha, Akhilesh Yadav said, "Vande Mataram was a source of inspiration during the freedom struggle. This song gave Indians the strength to unite and inspired them to fight against the British."
He also said that the song became widely popular, especially after being sung by Rabindranath Tagore, and became the voice of the Swadeshi movement. Yadav also accused the central government of trying to claim Vande Mataram as its own, while the song is not the property of any party or individual, but symbolizes the sentiment of the entire country.
Akhilesh Yadav also alleged that some people are trying to politicize Vande Mataram. He said, "Those who were not involved in the freedom struggle, how will they understand the importance of Vande Mataram? Some people were informers for the British, but today they claim to be nationalists." He presented Vande Mataram as India's cultural and historical heritage and stated that it is not the song of any particular political party or leader, but of the entire nation.
