The move comes after Gandhi’s speech in the Lok Sabha a day earlier, in which he accused the central government of compromising India’s national interests amid shifting global dynamics.

Motion moved against Rahul Gandhi in Lok Sabha by BJP MP
New Delhi: BJP MP Nishikant Dubey on Thursday submitted a motion in the Lok Sabha against Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of misleading the nation. Dubey has requested that Gandhi’s parliamentary membership be terminated and that he be barred for life from contesting elections.
Speaking to the media, Dubey alleged that Gandhi was trying to mislead the country with the support of “forces like George Soros,” whom he claimed were acting against India’s interests.
“I have moved a motion in the Lok Sabha today against Rahul Gandhi for misleading the nation. I have requested that his membership be terminated and that he be barred for life from contesting elections,” Dubey said.
The move comes after Gandhi’s speech in the Lok Sabha a day earlier, in which he accused the central government of compromising India’s national interests amid shifting global dynamics.
Gandhi claimed that while the government acknowledged the “global storm”-marked by the decline of a unipolar world order, rising geopolitical tensions, and the weaponisation of energy and financial tools-it allowed the United States to leverage these tools in ways that hurt India.
“When America dictates that we cannot purchase oil from a certain country, it means our energy security is being controlled from outside. Energy is being weaponised against us,” Gandhi said, accusing the government of compromising national interests.
He also raised concerns over trade and tariffs, noting that average tariff rates have risen from about 3% to 18%, while US exports to India are expected to increase from USD 46 billion to USD 146 billion. Gandhi called the situation “absurd,” claiming India was committing to higher imports without securing reciprocal benefits.
Gandhi further alleged that industrialist Anil Ambani’s name appeared in US Department of Justice documents related to the Epstein case and questioned why he had not faced legal action. He also claimed there was “direct pressure” on Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the India-US nuclear deal and other key sectors.
The BJP responded strongly. Union Minister Pralhad Joshi called Gandhi an “immature part-time politician” and said he had failed to provide evidence for his claims. “He has not produced any proof for what he said yesterday. The Parliamentary Affairs Ministry will take a decision on this,” Joshi added.
Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said BJP MPs would move a privilege notice against Gandhi for “misleading the House and making baseless allegations,” accusing him of levelling false charges against the government and Prime Minister Modi.
The confrontation has intensified the political face-off between the BJP and Congress in Parliament, with both sides clashing over foreign policy, economic issues, and allegations of impropriety.
