BJP announces major reshuffle under Nitin Nabin
New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday announced a major organisational reshuffle under party president Nitin Nabin, bringing several surprise changes ahead of crucial electoral battles. Union Minister Piyush Goyal has been appointed the party’s new national treasurer, former Union Minister Smriti Irani has made a comeback as national general secretary, while Amit Malviya has been removed from the BJP’s key IT Cell responsibility.
The new BJP national team marks Nitin Nabin’s first major organisational restructuring after taking charge as party president. The reshuffle focuses on a mix of organisational experience, regional representation, youth leadership and electoral management as the party prepares for upcoming political challenges.
The saffron party announced a new national office-bearer team comprising 13 national vice-presidents, eight general secretaries, 16 national secretaries and several heads of organisational wings and cells.
BJP’s powerful organisational post of General Secretary (Organisation) remains with B L Santhosh, who continues to hold the key responsibility of coordinating between the party organisation and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
Senior RSS functionary and former BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav has returned to the party’s national structure as a vice-president. Madhav had earlier played a significant role in the BJP’s organisational expansion, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir and the northeastern states.
One of the biggest changes in the new team is the appointment of Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal as the BJP’s national treasurer. Goyal replaces Rajesh Agarwal, who was handling the party’s finances. His appointment gains significance as his father Ved Prakash Goyal had served as BJP treasurer for over two decades during the Atal Bihari Vajpayee era.
Rajesh Mangal has been appointed as the new national joint treasurer. The move is being seen as an attempt to strengthen financial management and organisational coordination as the party enters a politically important phase.
Former Union Minister Smriti Irani has returned to the BJP’s national leadership structure after a gap. She has been appointed one of the party’s eight national general secretaries and will handle organisational responsibilities, including Uttar Pradesh.
Irani, who has been one of BJP’s prominent national faces, had earlier served as Union Minister and was among the party’s key campaigners during major elections. The new general secretary team includes Biplab Kumar Deb, Sunil Bansal, Vinod Tawde, Satish Poonia, Gajendra Patel, Harish Dwivedi and Sanjay Bhatia.
The most noticeable change in the reshuffle is the removal of Amit Malviya from the BJP’s IT Cell leadership. Malviya, who was among the party’s most visible digital strategists, has been replaced by Deepak Mhaskey from Chhattisgarh.
The party has also changed the structure of its digital wing by focusing on a broader social media department. Mhaskey has experience in handling regional digital strategies and has worked as a BJP spokesperson in Chhattisgarh. The change comes at a time when political parties are increasingly focusing on digital communication, social media outreach and online campaign strategies.
The BJP has also changed the leadership of its youth and women wings. Lok Sabha MP Tejasvi Surya has been replaced as the president of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM). Gujarat leader Dr Hemang Joshi has been appointed as the new BJYM chief.
For BJP Mahila Morcha, Roop Kumari Choudhary from Chhattisgarh has replaced Vanathi Srinivasan. The party has also appointed Amarpal Maurya from Uttar Pradesh as the new OBC Morcha chief, replacing K Laxman.
Kunwar Basit Ali from Uttar Pradesh has been appointed Minority Morcha president, while Bansilal Gurjar, Shivesh Kumar Ram and Dr Mannalal Rawat have been given charge of Kisan Morcha, SC Morcha and ST Morcha respectively.
The new BJP team carries significant representation from Uttar Pradesh, which remains one of the party’s most politically important states ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections. Harish Dwivedi has been retained as national general secretary, while leaders including Dr Bhola Singh and Sangeeta Yadav have been included as national secretaries.
Rekha Verma and Tariq Mansoor have been included among national vice-presidents, while Amarpal Maurya has received charge of the OBC Morcha. The representation from Uttar Pradesh indicates the BJP’s continued focus on caste equations, organisational expansion and booth-level mobilisation in the country’s most populous state.
The new team also increases representation for women leaders. Among the 13 national vice-presidents, several women leaders have been included, including Vasundhara Raje Scindia, D Purandeshwari and Rekha Verma.
Women leaders such as Kavita Patidar, Phangnon Konyak and Sangeeta Yadav have also been appointed as national secretaries. Party leaders said the new structure reflects a balance between experienced leaders and younger faces.
The party has appointed Vasundhara Raje Scindia, Ram Madhav, Baijayant Panda, D Purandeshwari, Tirath Singh Rawat, Bharti Pawar, Manpreet Singh Badal, Tariq Mansoor, Rekha Verma, Varshaben Doshi, Lal Singh Arya, M Nagaraja and Madhuchandra Kar as national vice-presidents.
The new national secretaries include Kavita Patidar, K Surendran, Dr Bhola Singh, Dr Pradip Varma, Jagdish Ishwarbhai Patel, Dr Sandeep Pathak, Phangnon Konyak, Sangeeta Yadav, Anil Antony, Dr M Venkateshan, Manoj Tigga, Siddharth Shambhu, Dr Swadesh Singh, Mriganka Deb Barman, Rohan Gupta and Jai Prakash. Former Congress leader Anil Antony and former AAP strategist Sandeep Pathak are among the notable names inducted into the national secretariat.
The organisational overhaul comes at a time when the BJP is preparing for a series of important electoral contests. The new team combines leaders with experience in state politics, election management, social media campaigns and organisational work.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the newly appointed office-bearers, saying the team brings together organisational experience, energy and grassroots connect. With Nitin Nabin’s first major reshuffle, the BJP appears focused on strengthening its election machinery, expanding social representation and preparing the organisation for future political battles.
