New Delhi: Noida Airport witnessed a major milestone as three Russian military aircraft landed at the facility ahead of the upcoming BRICS Summit in New Delhi. The arrival marked the first-ever landing of foreign aircraft at the newly operational airport.
The aircraft touched down early Tuesday morning at around 5:30 am, carrying a Russian advance team and military officials involved in preparations for President Vladimir Putin’s upcoming India visit.
One of the aircraft involved in the arrival was the Russian military transport aircraft IL-76, which is widely used for strategic transportation of personnel and equipment.
The three aircraft remained stationed at the airport as security teams from India and Russia monitored arrangements. Officials are coordinating movement and protocol-related preparations ahead of the high-level diplomatic event.
Traditionally, foreign military and official aircraft arriving in India have used Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. The Russian aircraft landing at Noida Airport marks a significant step for the newly developed aviation facility.
The move highlights the airport’s readiness to handle international operations and special diplomatic movements.
The 18th BRICS Summit is scheduled to take place on September 12 and 13 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. Several global leaders are expected to participate in the two-day event.
Russian President Vladimir Putin is among the key attendees expected at the summit. The arrival of Russian aircraft is part of broader arrangements being made for the movement and security of foreign dignitaries.
