News Delhi: The Union Cabinet has approved the transition of key government offices from the historic North and South Blocks to the newly inaugurated ‘Seva Teerth’ and ‘Kartavya Bhavans’, marking the end of an era in India’s administrative history.

On February 13, 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated the new Prime Minister’s Office, ‘Seva Teerth’, to the nation.

Constructed during British rule, the North and South Blocks have housed the Prime Minister’s Office and witnessed major milestones-from Independence and the challenges of Partition to economic reforms and national security decisions taken by successive governments. The Cabinet meeting held on Thursday was the last to take place in South Block.

The government described the relocation as a symbolic shift from a colonial legacy to a modern, technology-driven and service-oriented governance framework aligned with the vision of a developed India.

Over the decades, key decisions and reforms-including Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), Swachh Bharat, Digital India, GST, and major national security measures-were shaped within these historic corridors.

The Cabinet also resolved to convert the North and South Blocks into the ‘Yuge Yugeen Bharat’ National Museum, envisioned as a landmark cultural institution showcasing India’s ancient civilisation and connecting its rich heritage with a forward-looking future.
