New Delhi: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Wednesday organised a protest in Srinagar to mark the seventh anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370, reiterating its demand for the restoration of the region's constitutional guarantees.
Senior party leaders, legislators and workers gathered in the city carrying placards and raising slogans as they reaffirmed the party's opposition to the constitutional changes introduced on August 5, 2019. The demonstration remained peaceful and was held under heightened security arrangements.
Addressing party workers during the protest, NC leaders said the revocation of Article 370 and the reorganisation of the erstwhile state into the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh had significantly altered the region's constitutional and political framework.

The party maintained that it would continue pursuing the restoration of constitutional safeguards through democratic, legal and constitutional means. Leaders said their political campaign would remain peaceful and committed to constitutional principles.
The National Conference also urged the Union Government to initiate meaningful political dialogue with stakeholders in Jammu and Kashmir. According to party leaders, sustained democratic engagement is essential to address political aspirations and strengthen public confidence in the region.
The protest concluded without any major law-and-order incidents. Security personnel were deployed across the protest venue, while traffic movement was regulated in parts of Srinagar to ensure public safety.
August 5 remains a politically significant date in Jammu and Kashmir, with political parties observing it in different ways based on their positions on the constitutional changes of 2019.
While the National Conference continues to seek the restoration of constitutional guarantees through legal and democratic processes, the Union Government has consistently maintained that the abrogation of Article 370 has strengthened national integration, improved governance and accelerated development in the Union Territory.
