Eight MPs suspended after protest in Lok Sabha
New Delhi: The Lok Sabha witnessed massive uproar during the speech of Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi.
Incidents of opposition MPs climbing on tables and throwing papers towards the Speaker's chair raised serious questions about parliamentary decorum. The proceedings of the House were repeatedly disrupted amidst the chaos.
Speaker Om Birla takes strict action
Taking serious note of the escalating disorder and contempt of the Chair, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla adopted a firm stance.
The Speaker suspended seven opposition MPs for the remainder of the budget session of Parliament on charges of indiscipline. The suspended MPs will now be unable to participate in any of the proceedings of the current session.
List of Suspended MPs
The suspended MPs include Congress members Arvind Singh, Prashant Parole, Kuldeep Singh, Manickam Tagore, Hibi Eden, Amarinder Singh, Dean Kuriakose, and Kiran Kumar Reddy.
These MPs are accused of throwing papers in the House, climbing on tables, and showing disrespect to the Chair. The Speaker clarified that any compromise with the dignity of Parliament would not be tolerated.
Opposition calls the action repressive
Before this action, Congress MP KC Venugopal had launched a scathing attack on the government. He said that Rahul Gandhi was fulfilling his constitutional responsibility, but the government was trying to silence his speech. Venugopal challenged the government, saying that if it had the courage, it should suspend the opposition MPs.
Political confrontation intensifies in Parliament
After the suspension of the MPs, the political atmosphere in the Parliament complex has become even more heated. The opposition has termed it an act of suppressing democratic voices, while the ruling party says that this decision was necessary to maintain parliamentary discipline. In the coming days, a fierce political battle is expected both inside and outside Parliament on this issue.
