New Delhi: In a major step towards making justice delivery faster and more accessible, Chief Justice of India Justice Surya Kant’s initiative SAMADHAN SAMAROH 2026 has entered its final phase with a Special Lok Adalat at the Supreme Court of India.
The initiative, which began on April 21, 2026, focuses on resolving pending disputes through mediation, dialogue and mutual agreement instead of prolonged litigation.
The Special Lok Adalat, being conducted at the Supreme Court, will continue till August 23, providing litigants an opportunity to settle their cases through an amicable process.
Over 400 Cases Resolved Under CJI Surya Kant’s Initiative
On the first day of the Special Lok Adalat, more than 600 cases were listed before 16 special benches.

Each bench consisted of two sitting judges of the Supreme Court along with Senior Advocates, Advocates-on-Record (AORs) and other legal professionals.
With the support of these benches, more than 400 cases were settled through mutual consent and discussions between the parties.
Wide Range of Disputes Taken Up
The Special Lok Adalat addressed several categories of cases, including matrimonial disputes, property-related matters, motor accident claims, land acquisition compensation cases, tax disputes, service matters and labour-related issues.
These cases had already gone through a pre-settlement process after the launch of the SAMADHAN SAMAROH initiative, where parties and their lawyers were encouraged to explore settlement possibilities.
Strengthening Mediation in India’s Justice System
CJI Surya Kant’s SAMADHAN SAMAROH initiative highlights the growing importance of mediation and alternative dispute resolution in reducing the burden on courts.
The programme aims to provide citizens with quicker solutions while ensuring that justice remains accessible, efficient and focused on mutual resolution.
Through this initiative, the Supreme Court has reinforced the message that dialogue and consensus can play a crucial role in transforming the justice delivery system.
