Washington: The conflict between the United States and Iran is approaching the six-month mark, with tensions showing no signs of easing. US President Donald Trump has said Tehran is not prepared to accept what he described as the “right deal” to end the war.
Trump said Iran wants an agreement but is unwilling to accept terms that Washington considers necessary. He added that US military options in the region remain open.
The Strait of Hormuz has emerged as a major flashpoint during the conflict. Trump claimed that the US has “total control” over the strategic waterway and surrounding areas.
The region is crucial for global energy supplies, making any escalation there a matter of international concern. Trump has also previously shared maps highlighting the importance of the area amid rising tensions.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has acknowledged that the war must eventually come to an end. He said ending the conflict while Iran remains strong would be preferable.
Pezeshkian also pointed to growing public dissatisfaction caused by economic difficulties, sanctions and disruptions to trade. He questioned whether current fuel subsidy policies could continue amid financial pressure.
The prolonged conflict has increased pressure on American forces deployed in the region. Reports suggest US naval assets have remained on extended missions, raising concerns about the impact on service members and their families.
