New Delhi: The prices of commercial LPG cylinders have been hiked significantly starting Friday. This will increase costs for businesses in the food and hospitality sectors, while the prices of domestic LPG remain unchanged. However, the price of 5-kilogram FTL (Free Trade LPG) cylinders has also been raised by Rs 261 with immediate effect.

Commercial LPG cylinder prices have seen a sharp increase, with the cost of a 19-kg cylinder rising by Rs 993. Following the hike, the price in Delhi has climbed to Rs 3,071.50. Despite this significant jump, there has been no change in the pricing of domestic LPG cylinders.

According to reports, state-run oil companies have decided to keep several key fuel prices stable to protect consumers from global market fluctuations. Notably, Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) rates for domestic airlines remain unchanged, even as international fuel prices trend upward. However, ATF prices for international carriers have been increased.

No Impact on Household Fuel and Transport Costs

Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) clarified that there has been no revision in fuels that directly affect the general public. Petrol and diesel prices continue to remain steady, covering nearly 90% of total fuel consumption. Similarly, the price of domestic LPG cylinders (14.2 kg), used by around 330 million households, has not been altered. Kerosene supplied under the Public Distribution System (PDS) has also been kept at existing rates.

Overall, about 80% of petroleum-based products have not experienced any price change, ensuring relative stability for most consumers.

Industrial Fuels See Selective Price Adjustments

The recent price revision primarily impacts commercial and bulk fuel users. Prices of commercial LPG cylinders and bulk diesel have been increased, along with ATF used in international aviation. These categories represent a small share of total consumption and are typically subject to monthly revisions based on global benchmarks.

At the same time, around 4% of petroleum products have recorded a decline in prices, reflecting ongoing shifts in international markets. In summary, while a majority of fuel prices remain stable, approximately 16%-largely industrial fuels-have seen an upward revision.
