‘Could Have Done Better’: CJP Founder Dipke Meets Injured Students, Apologises to Women Hurt in Protest

After visiting students injured during the CJP march, Abhijeet Dipke admitted he “could have done better” to protect supporters and invited those hurt in the clashes to contact him personally.

New Delhi: Cockroach Janta Party convenor Abhijeet Dipke on Tuesday apologised to supporters injured during the outfit’s ‘Chalo Sansad’ protest, saying he could have done more to protect them from the police action at Jantar Mantar.

In a post on X, Dipke specifically referred to women protesters who, according to him, were beaten by male police personnel.

“I apologise to all our supporters, especially the girls who were brutally beaten by male police officers. We could have done better. I could have done better to protect you,” he wrote.

Dipke also urged injured protesters to contact him personally, saying he wanted to speak with them and apologise. He reiterated that the movement would continue its campaign over issues concerning students.

Dipke meets injured students

A day after the march, Dipke visited Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and met students who had sustained injuries during Monday’s protest. He claimed that one woman was in critical condition following the alleged lathi-charge.

The march had been organised to demand the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. CJP claimed that thousands of people participated in the demonstration.

The protest began with participants offering flowers to police personnel but later witnessed clashes near barricades. Police used force and tear gas as sections of the crowd attempted to move ahead. Several protesters were seen with injuries, while the main stage at Jantar Mantar was dismantled and the area cleared.

Over 118 personnel  injured

Delhi Police presented a different account, accusing protesters of aggressive and violent conduct, damaging public property and attacking security personnel. Police claimed that more than 118 personnel were injured and said prohibitory orders had been deliberately violated.

The competing claims surrounding the violence remain politically contentious.
