New Delhi: Weather conditions are set to change across several parts of India as a deep depression developing over the Bay of Bengal is expected to bring heavy rainfall, strong winds and possible flooding risks in multiple states. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Chhattisgarh and other regions.
The weather system is likely to intensify further and move towards the coastal areas of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh, increasing the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall in the coming days.
According to the IMD forecast, the low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal is expected to strengthen into a deep depression within the next 12 hours.
The system is likely to affect Odisha and Andhra Pradesh coasts, with heavy rainfall predicted in Odisha on September 23-24, coastal Andhra Pradesh on September 22-23, and parts of Chhattisgarh and Telangana on September 23-24.
Strong winds with speeds reaching up to 75 kmph are expected in coastal areas of southern Odisha and northern Andhra Pradesh. Due to rough sea conditions, fishermen have been advised to avoid venturing into the sea.
Authorities have also warned of possible waterlogging and flooding in vulnerable areas.
The IMD has predicted rainfall activity across 13 states on September 23.
Kerala, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Sikkim, Maharashtra, Gujarat, West Bengal, Assam and Meghalaya are likely to receive light to heavy rainfall.
Several regions may also experience strong winds between 40 and 75 kmph due to the impact of the weather system.
Delhi-NCR is expected to witness relatively clear skies on September 23 and 24.
The maximum temperature is likely to remain around 35-36 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature may stay between 24-25 degrees Celsius.
From September 25, partly cloudy conditions are expected, along with possible changes in temperature patterns.
No major rainfall alert has been issued for Uttar Pradesh on September 23.
However, weather conditions may change between September 25 and 27, with several districts in eastern Uttar Pradesh likely to receive thunderstorms and rainfall.
Areas including Ballia, Gorakhpur, Deoria, Kushinagar, Maharajganj, Azamgarh, Varanasi and Jaunpur may experience rain activity.
Western Uttar Pradesh may also witness rainfall in some areas on September 26-27, while parts of eastern UP could receive very heavy rainfall on September 26.
Bihar is expected to receive light to moderate rainfall on September 23, while some areas may experience very heavy rainfall between September 24 and 25.
Jharkhand may continue to witness rainfall activity from September 23 to 27, with heavy showers possible on September 23 and September 25-26.
In Madhya Pradesh, rainfall is likely in eastern and western regions on September 25-26. The IMD has issued a warning of very heavy rainfall in western Madhya Pradesh on September 26.
Meanwhile, favourable conditions are developing for the withdrawal of the southwest monsoon from parts of northwest India over the next two to three days.
Weather experts are closely monitoring the movement of the Bay of Bengal system and its impact on rainfall distribution across different regions.
People in affected areas have been advised to follow local weather updates and IMD alerts, especially in regions facing risks of heavy rainfall, strong winds and flooding.
