Dehradun Police arrested two accused after an encounter in the Rajpur area in connection with the killing of retired Brigadier Mukesh Kumar Joshi. One accused was injured during the exchange of fire, while another was held safely.

Ex-Brigadier Killing: Police Nab Two After Gunfight
Dehradun: In a major action on Friday night, Dehradun police arrested two accused in the case related to the death of retired Brigadier Mukesh Kumar Joshi. The operation took place in the Rajpur police station area, where an encounter also took place between the police and the suspects. According to the police, during checking, information was received about the presence of the suspects near Johri village, following which the team laid a siege to apprehend them.
As soon as the police arrived, the accused fled towards the forest of Guniyal village. During the pursuit, one of the accused opened fire on the police. In retaliation, the police also fired, hitting one of the accused in the leg. The injured accused was immediately admitted to the hospital. A pistol was also recovered from the scene.
The arrested accused have been identified as Mohammad Kavish Hussain Tyagi, a resident of Muzaffarnagar, and Shantanu Tyagi, a resident of Saharanpur. Kavish was injured in the encounter, while Shantanu was captured safely. Senior officers arrived at the scene upon receiving information about the incident, and forensic teams began collecting evidence.
According to the police, the case is linked to a recent incident where retired Brigadier Mukesh Kumar Joshi was shot dead. A road rage fight between two groups in Rajpur turned violent, and a stray bullet hit him while he was on a morning walk.
The investigation also revealed that a day before the incident, the accused were present at the "Gen Z" club, where they had a dispute with the staff over the bill. It is alleged that a fight also broke out at the club. When the club owners left the next morning, the accused followed them to Johri village, where the dispute flared up again and firing occurred.
According to SSP Pramendra Doval, a total of four people have been arrested in this case so far, while three accused from the other group are still at large. Police have also seized both vehicles used in the incident and are conducting raids to search for the absconding accused. Officials say that the remaining accused will also be caught soon and strict action will be ensured in the case.
