Heatwave Tightens Grip as Residents Await Rain Relief
New Delhi: Delhi is currently enduring intense heatwave conditions, with maximum temperatures soaring between 42°C and 43°C on April 24 and 25. Clear skies and relentless sunshine have made daytime conditions extremely harsh, especially during afternoon hours when heat exposure becomes particularly dangerous.
Yellow Alert Issued Across the City
Authorities have issued a yellow alert, warning residents about the health risks associated with prolonged exposure to high temperatures. The alert advises people to take precautions, including staying indoors during the peak hours and maintaining adequate hydration levels.
Uniform Heat Across All Districts
The heatwave is not limited to specific pockets. Areas across North, Central, South and West Delhi are all experiencing similar extreme conditions. The lack of variation in weather patterns across the city has resulted in minimal relief, even during early morning or evening hours.
NCR Regions Also Affected
Neighbouring regions in the National Capital Region, including Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram and Faridabad, are also witnessing a sharp rise in temperatures. Hot winds sweeping across these areas are further intensifying the discomfort, making outdoor activities increasingly difficult.
Slight Cloud Cover but No Immediate Relief
Although light cloud cover is expected on April 25, meteorologists indicate that it is unlikely to bring significant relief from the ongoing heatwave. Conditions are expected to remain largely unchanged, with high temperatures continuing to dominate.
Weather Shift Likely from April 26
A potential change in weather patterns is anticipated starting April 26. Forecasts suggest the possibility of thunderstorms, gusty winds and dust storms in parts of Delhi-NCR. These developments may lead to a gradual dip in temperatures and improved comfort levels.
Temporary Relief Expected to Continue
Cloudy skies are likely to persist into April 27, offering short-term respite from the intense heat. However, experts caution that this relief may be temporary and temperatures could rise again in the following days.
Air Quality Remains a Concern
In addition to the heatwave, air quality levels remain moderate to poor, with the Air Quality Index hovering around 176. This pose added health risks, particularly for sensitive groups such as children, the elderly and individuals with respiratory conditions.
