IMD Reveals Expected Monsoon Arrival Date
New Delhi: Delhi residents experienced uncomfortable weather conditions on Sunday as high humidity levels pushed the heat index beyond 45°C, making the capital feel significantly hotter than the recorded temperature. The situation has renewed focus on the arrival of the southwest monsoon, which is expected to bring much-needed relief later this month.
While the city's maximum temperature settled at 41.6°C, around 1.6 degrees above the seasonal average, the heat index climbed to 45.1°C due to elevated moisture levels in the atmosphere. The minimum temperature was recorded at 27.7°C, slightly above normal.
Humidity fluctuated between 31 percent and 65 percent during the day, creating muggy conditions that intensified discomfort for residents. Among various monitoring stations, the Ridge area recorded the highest daytime temperature at 41.8°C.
Weather officials have forecast clear skies and strong sunshine for Monday, with temperatures expected to remain around 41°C during the day and 28°C at night. Similar weather conditions are likely to persist for the next two to three days, keeping heat stress levels high across the city.
However, there is some relief in sight. Light rainfall is expected around June 11 and June 12, which could temporarily lower temperatures and improve weather conditions across Delhi and adjoining areas.
The southwest monsoon is projected to reach Delhi and the wider National Capital Region during the last week of June, between June 25 and June 30. Nearby cities such as Noida, Gurugram and Ghaziabad are also expected to receive seasonal rains during the same period.
The arrival of the monsoon will be closely watched as residents continue to cope with humid heat and rising discomfort levels across the region.
