New Delhi: An unexpected meeting between PM Narendra Modi and his former schoolmate from Gujarat’s Vadnagar has brought attention to a long-running property dispute in Maharashtra. Eighty-one-year-old Asgarbhai Vohra, who studied at the same school as PM Modi, met the Prime Minister during his Mumbai visit on September 8, 2026 and submitted a letter regarding his alleged land dispute in Bhayandar East.
Vohra claimed that his 2,810-square-metre property had been illegally occupied and requested a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the matter.
Vohra said he had avoided approaching PM Modi earlier because of his national responsibilities. According to him, he considered his personal issue too small compared to the duties of leading the country. However, after a recent phone conversation with the Prime Minister, he shared details of the dispute and requested a meeting. Following this, he received communication from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) regarding an opportunity to meet Modi during his Mumbai visit for the Global Fintech Fest.
Vohra travelled from Gandhinagar to Mumbai and met Prime Minister Modi at the event venue. During the meeting, he submitted a written complaint alleging that his property in Bhayandar East had been taken over by two builders. He also requested a CBI investigation into the matter. Vohra said the Prime Minister listened to his concerns and gave a positive response regarding looking into the issue.
According to Vohra’s complaint, he purchased the land located on Navghar Road in Bhayandar East in 1989 through a registered agreement. The property, measuring around 2,810 square metres, was earlier part of survey number 240 and is currently identified under survey number 185, hissa number six. Vohra alleged that although he never sold or transferred the property, it was taken over in 2011 and later divided between two construction entities.
Vohra stated that an FIR was registered in 2015 following his complaint regarding the alleged land dispute. He added that a Criminal Investigation Department (CID) inquiry was later ordered, with a report submitted in early 2026. The complainant further alleged that construction permissions were granted by local authorities despite the ongoing dispute over ownership of the property.
After meeting PM Modi, Vohra expressed hope that his decades-old property dispute would finally move towards a resolution. He said that after years of legal struggle, his meeting with the PM has renewed his expectation of receiving justice in the matter.
