New Delhi: Heavy rain lashed several parts of Delhi-NCR on Tuesday morning, bringing much-needed relief from the heat and significantly lowering temperatures across the region.

Areas around Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, Dwarka, and Rajapuri witnessed intense downpours, while strong winds swept through Noida under dark, overcast skies.

Waterlogging was reported on several roads, particularly in Rajapuri near Dwarka, causing inconvenience to commuters. The fresh spell of rain comes a day after a powerful storm struck the national capital on Monday afternoon, keeping weather conditions pleasant across the region.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier forecast thunderstorms and rainfall across North India, including Delhi-NCR, and the prediction has now materialized. According to the weather agency, intermittent showers and light drizzles are likely to continue over the next few days as pre-monsoon activity intensifies ahead of the monsoon season.

Rainy Week Ahead for Delhi-NCR

The IMD has predicted scattered rainfall across Delhi throughout the week, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds. Cloudy skies are expected to persist from June 17 to June 19, while rain coupled with thunderstorm activity is forecast for June 20 and 21.

Storm Alert Across North India

The weather department has also warned of strong thunderstorms with lightning and wind speeds exceeding 60 kmph over the next few hours in Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, parts of western Uttar Pradesh, and northern Bihar.

Monsoon Likely to Reach Delhi by Month-End

The Southwest Monsoon is expected to advance into Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, and Uttarakhand by the end of June. At present, the monsoon has covered Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, and parts of Bihar.

The IMD said conditions remain favorable for further advancement of the monsoon over the next four to five days into additional parts of the Arabian Sea, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, and the remaining regions of Bihar. Mumbai is also likely to witness the monsoon's arrival soon.

With rain clouds continuing to dominate the skies, Delhi-NCR residents can expect cooler temperatures and frequent showers in the days ahead.
