Delhi Drenched Again! Heavy Rain Hits Capital, IMD’s Big Warning For Next 48 Hours

Delhi-NCR witnessed fresh rainfall on Thursday morning as IMD forecast more showers, thunderstorms and gusty winds till Friday. Authorities warned of possible waterlogging and traffic disruptions.

New Delhi: There have been rains in some parts of Delhi-NCR, giving respite to people from the humid climate and lowering down the temperature levels. However, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has stated that there is a danger of waterlogging due to persistent rainfall.

The department has issued a nowcast warning at orange level in some parts of South Delhi, New Delhi, southwest Delhi, and west Delhi. Light to moderate rain along with thunderstorms and lightning activity and winds with speeds ranging up to 30-40 km per hour have been forecast in these areas in the morning.

Cloudy weather with possibility of rainfall throughout the day

According to the IMD predictions, the city of Delhi will experience mostly cloudy weather on Thursday. There will be light rain in most parts, whereas there can be moderate rainfall at some parts in the morning and afternoon.

There is another possibility of light rainfall in the evening or night. The maximum temperature will remain 31-33 degrees centigrade, whereas the minimum temperature is predicted to range between 22-24 degrees centigrade.

The same weather pattern is predicted for Friday, with light rainfall in most parts and moderate showers at isolated places during the first half of the day.

Uneven rainfall occurred in Delhi-NCR regions

Some locations in Delhi and nearby places experienced uneven rainfall in the region on Wednesday. Safdarjung observed considerable rainfall, whereas other places such as Lodhi Road and Ayanagar had more rainfall. In addition, Gurugram had a considerable amount of rainfall.

Due to the rainfall, the maximum temperatures in the region fell below the seasonal average. The maximum temperature at Safdarjung was recorded as 32.6 degrees Celsius.

Systems responsible for rain

According to the IMD, the present weather condition is due to the effect of the monsoon trough in Rohtak along with a cyclonic circulation in the northwest of Uttar Pradesh. Moreover, there is a western disturbance that is impacting the current atmosphere.

The meteorological department has warned people to be careful about traffic information.
