New Delhi: Delhi-NCR witnessed another spell of heavy rainfall on Saturday, a day after relentless showers caused severe waterlogging and massive traffic disruptions across the region. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for parts of Delhi, warning of intense weather conditions.
Several parts of the national capital remain under a red alert until 12 noon, indicating the possibility of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms. Other areas of Delhi-NCR have been placed under an orange alert as weather conditions continue to remain unstable.
The IMD has predicted thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rainfall at different intervals throughout September 5.
The fresh rainfall comes after Friday’s downpour brought normal life to a standstill in several parts of Delhi, Noida, Gurugram and nearby areas. Waterlogging was reported on major roads, leading to long traffic jams and delays for commuters.
Areas around Indira Gandhi International Airport also witnessed water accumulation, affecting movement around terminal routes. Several commuters faced difficulties while navigating flooded roads.
Weather experts have predicted another intense spell of rainfall across Delhi-NCR. According to forecasts, Noida, Ghaziabad and Faridabad may receive heavier showers, while Delhi and Gurugram could also witness moderate to heavy rainfall by Saturday night.
The possibility of fresh waterlogging remains high due to continuous rainfall and already saturated drainage systems.
The IMD has forecast cloudy skies with moderate rain in Delhi on September 5. Temperatures are expected to remain between 25°C and 30°C.
Light rain or drizzle may continue on September 6, while partly cloudy conditions are likely from September 7 onwards. Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious, especially during periods of intense rainfall.
