Rain and Thunderstorms Expected Before Temperatures Soar
New Delhi: Residents in Delhi experienced light rainfall and strong winds on Tuesday night, bringing brief relief from the ongoing summer heat. According to the India Meteorological Department, more rain and thunderstorm activity is expected across the national capital on Wednesday, May 13.
The weather department had issued a yellow alert on Tuesday due to the possibility of thunderstorms, lightning, and scattered showers in Delhi and nearby areas. However, no official weather alert has been issued for Wednesday, despite forecasts of rain and thunderstorm activity continuing through the day.
The IMD stated that Delhi’s maximum temperature on Wednesday is expected to reach around 39 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature may settle near 27 degrees Celsius.
On Tuesday, Safdarjung, Delhi’s primary weather station, recorded a maximum temperature of 39 degrees Celsius, which was slightly below the seasonal average. While most weather stations in the city reported either trace rainfall or dry conditions, Palam recorded 0.1 mm rainfall between 8:30 am and 5:30 pm.
After the brief spell of rain, weather conditions in Delhi are likely to turn hotter over the next few days. The IMD has predicted a gradual rise in maximum temperatures during the week, with temperatures expected to touch 40 to 41 degrees Celsius by the weekend.
The IMD also noted that there may not be any major change in minimum temperatures during the next four days, although a slight increase is likely afterward.
